Bazaar Talent Quest !

This week some preps put their name down to perform in the Talent Quest at the Bazaar. The coordinators have given the preps extra time to practice their acts. They ask that if the preps have a short act (no more than a couple of minutes) they meet in the gym next Wednesday 21st at lunchtime to practice. They can then practice every Wednesday lunchtime after that in the gym before performing at the Bazaar. They can choose music for their act as well and as long as it is short, all preps will be able to perform. If you have any questions you can ask one of the prep team,

Thank you!

Addition

In Numeracy we have been looking at party bag addition. If there are two different treats in your party bag, how many of each treat is there and how many treats altogether?
 There are lots of ways to make 10 (5 and 5, 6 and 4, 7 and 3, 8 and 2, 9 and 1!)
 Ruby explored doubling 10!
If we put the counters on tens frames we can count by tens and it is a lot faster!
Using tens frames shows clearly what ten looks like and makes counting faster and organised.
Well done preps!

Researching Games Around the School.

As part of our inquiry into 'How do we celebrate friendship? we have started looking at what games exist on the ground around the school and will be collecting data on who uses these games and which are the most popular in prep. We all had fun realizing that there are more painted games on the ground than we thought. We also discussed that there were different games that could be played on each design.

ACTION REQUIRED: Request from Hannah

Just a reminder to bring in a white T-shirt, calico bag or pillow case from home to print on next week.

These should be bought in by the end of this week. Hannah has advised students to keep them in their lockers until needed.

If students do not want to bring in an item from home to print on, they will be given other opportunities to further develop their textile skills on the calico print.

Many thanks or all your help with this request,
The Prep team

Life Education

This week the Prep Neighbourhood visited the Life Education van.

The kids were thrilled to be introduced to Harold the giraffe. Some of the many interesting topics covered in the session were:
  • The different functions of our organs
  • The types and amount of food that is required for a healthy diet
  • How to sort food and drink into groups
  • What action to take if a needle is seen on the ground
  • What to do if they are around someone who is smoking
The Preps loved using their special powers; rubbing their hands on the carpet and bringing their arms up to the sky turned the lights off and revealed a starry sky. Patting Harold was also highlight for many.

PMP next week

Due to a change in the specialist teachers timetable, we need to change the time of PMP from Monday morning to Monday afternoon.

It will be held in the gym next Monday from 2.40 - 3.20.

There will be a helper sign up sheet on the Prep notice board next week.

Many thanks,

The Prep Team

Grand Parents' Day!

Dear Parents, Carers, Grandparents and special friends,

We would like to remind you of our Grandparents' Day in Term 4. This is a tradition at Princes Hill Primary where grandparents (or special friends if grandparents cannot attend) are invited to enjoy a morning tea and to celebrate the achievements of the Preps in their first year of school. It will be a morning tea held on Thursday December 3rd at 10am to 11am in the foyer of the gym. We would appreciate if on the day you could bring a plate of food to share. Please label the ingredients so we can cater for people with allergies.  Grandparents will be able to see a short performance by the preps,  view the neighbourhood and student portfolios. We look forward to seeing you there and hopefully grandparents too!

The Prep Team

Garden Club Tomorrow

Tomorrow at 9am there will be garden club meeting for any parents interested.

The garden club will be harvesting the winter veges and planting the spring/summer seedlings (including tomatoes, cucumber, corn and more!)

Hope to see some of you there!

Hats!

Hats are compulsory for all students at school during Term 4.

Wide brimmed hats are recommended.

Welcome Back

We are now in forth and final term of the school year. The year has absolutely flown and we are all so impressed with how far the Prep neighbourhood have come as learners.

The children have quickly thrown themselves back into their learning after the break. This week during Learning Agreement, the kids have had the opportunity to represent a part of their holiday using different forms of expression.

We look forward to a fantastic end of a great year with an amazing group of children.
